Community Service

One of our missions is to donate, and this is where we really invest our hearts and souls. In 1986, we first started making quilts for David's House which is a low-cost temporary residence for the families of critically ill children being treated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. We provide quilts for each child to take home as their own, and we also make bed quilts for the family rooms at David's House. Currently, our productivity for this project alone is between 160 and 200 quilts and pillowcases a year.

Closer to home, we make quilts for the Child Advocacy Center of Center Carroll County; in addition to "comfort quilts" for local families who have suffered a fire, accidents or serious illness.

To carry out another one of our missions, we sponsor and support the Sew Sleepy Club, at Ossipee Central School. This is part of the “Schools Out!” program which offers daily enrichment classes from 3:15-5 pm. The Sew Sleepy Club promotes quilting and sewing for boys and girls in grades 4 thru 6.  Initiated by SarahS in 2004 and assisted by LindaM in 2008, students are transported from first seeing a sewing machine to a finished quilt they make themselves.  LLQG volunteers assist students in mastering straight seams on pillow cases as a first project, matching corners of quilt blocks, assembling rows of quilt blocks, and seam ripping when needed.  The quilts are sandwiched by the Tuesday Evening Edition members for the students to tie.  LLQG assists with the purchase of material and batting for the Sew Sleepy Club. This program is offered on Fridays, 1 semester per year; normally the end of March through mid-June.

If someone needs help, our response is a quilt!  On an ad hoc basis, such quilts have been made for people all over the country:  our American wounded soldiers, hurricane victims, and flood victims.  As they say, "A person under a quilt is covered with love."
